What are wrinkles, and how can you prevent them?

In the past, when our skin was still smooth like silk, we associated wrinkles with cute old grannies in a cute flower dress. The creases on the skin, which are commonly known as wrinkles, were still far from a reality. We are now aware of the necessity to provide our skin with the highest level of treatment and care. This blog aims to provide information on wrinkles and suggestions on how to maintain smooth skin for an extended period.

What are wrinkles?

As you get older, the elasticity of your skin decreases. This decrease in elasticity is due to the lack of collagen and elastin production, and a lack of moisture. Because of the lack of collagen and elastin, the skin becomes looser and thinner over time, resulting in wrinkles. This causes creases in the skin, which we call wrinkles.

Whether and when you get wrinkles is basically genetically determined. People with fewer wrinkles literally have good genes. Fortunately, you don’t have to leave it entirely to fate, because there are also many external factors that influence whether or not you get wrinkles.

What helps against wrinkles

If we have to believe all the commercials, wrinkles should no longer exist. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple and those pesky creases are persistent. Still, there is a lot we can do to delay getting wrinkles for as long as possible and to reduce them once they have appeared.

  • Healthy diet. Eating a varied and healthy diet has a big influence on the elasticity of the skin. So avoid junk food as much as possible and go for lots of vegetables, little sugar and lots of vitamins.
  • But don’t overdo it with healthy food and also put your teeth in a burger every now and then, because stress also does not do the skin any good. Every fiber in your body and therefore also the skin, does not respond well to stress.
  • Develop a beauty routine that fits your skin and stick to it. Proper skin care is extremely important and should never be overlooked. So NEVER go to sleep without properly cleaning your skin.
  • Quit smoking! Get rid of it and never touch it again. Smoking makes the skin dry and gray, and wrinkles appear many years earlier than necessary.
  • Use UV protection every day (even if there is no sun in sight). Exposing the skin to too much sun is not only life-threatening, but also a real no-go for wrinkles.
  • Keep your body and skin healthy by using the right nutritional supplements.
  • Choose a day cream with retinol. You can read more about this in the blog: Retinol, what is it and why is it so important?!
  • Visit a skin specialist. There are different treatments such as peels and micro-needling which are effective in combating wrinkles.
  • Botox and fillers. Whether you are a fan or a big opponent… Botox and fillers help against wrinkles. Point!
  • Sleep! We all know that a good night’s sleep is good for your health, but did you know that your skin will be very happy with it too? While you sleep, your body works hard to repair and save what can be saved. The skin also gets its turn. Just pay attention to your sleeping posture, because sleeping on your side or stomach can actually cause wrinkles. Sleep on your back, it is ;-).

You are beautiful

Of course we are all to a greater or lesser extent busy with our beauty ideals, but don’t forget to enjoy and be yourself. A wrinkle more or less does not make you a less beautiful person. You are beautiful just the way you are!
